Agree with Ironside
Rice is being a bit naive answering these questions ... presumably honestly
During the World Cup the simple answer is .... I am 100% concentrated on England right now
When he comes back to us ... I am 100% concentrated on West Ham doing better this season

Journalist will ask a question to get a headline and by answering like this he has guaranteed that he will be asked about it EVERY time he is interviewed.

Re: Rice comments
A lot of comparisons with Noble here but let’s be honest, as much as we love Mark, Declan wouldn’t want to emulate his career.
One club hero is lovely and all that but Noble didn’t win anything including even one England cap.
You can’t put adulation ok your medal cabinet when you retire.

Re: Rice comments
It should be clear to anyone who's watched us the past couple of seasons that he's head and shoulders above anyone else we have in the squad. He's a (near) future England captain and I think will go down as one of the best footballers this country/Ireland has ever produced. As much as it pains me to say it he deserves to be playing in a better team than us. No need for the comments he made at the WC though - he should have dodged the question and spouted the classic line that he's only focusing on his next games and winning the WC - and he should have more respect for us than saying what he did.Truth be told we had it all on a platter last season and Moyes and the club f#cked it by not strengthening in January. CL this season (and straight into the group stage) would have meant we could have attracted a far better quality of player this summer (still have no idea how we signed Paqueta) and we could have genuinely turned a corner. The manager / Board f#cked it by not strengthening in January and sadly the price we will pay is losing the best player to have ever come through our academy. To rub salt into our wounds he will sign for Chelsea and similary to Lumpard and Cole he will with them win more trophies than we have won as a club.

It always amazes me that people can read so much into what players say or sometimes don’t say! You would think being a professional footballer also entails the ability to somehow subtly or cryptically let people know there intentions about leaving or staying at whatever club or issuing a come and get me?

There footballers FFS not Nostradamus type people talking in riddles, and good portion are not that bright or clever either.

Re: Rice comments
I’m pretty relaxed about the fact that this is inevitable now purely because we fucked up when we had the chance to win a European trophy and push on from there.

We’ve been dogshit this season. I don’t blame him. I’ve already accepted it. Let’s taken the money and (not) spend it on strengthening the squad.

Re: Rice comments
really its simple and a two way deal - a win for him and us.

we gave him his chance. He gave us a few years of quality and a nice transfer fee into the bargain.

If he does not want to play here not much we can do about it. Is he the type of player you want to build a team around? - yes probably. As a club are we capable of doing so? - no it seems.

Again.

Football is Declan's JOB - just like yours is flipping burgers at MacDonalds.

If Burger King came along and offered YOU twice the money for doing the same thing, why would you not grab the chance with both hands and change employer?

Re: Rice comments
Dec has been superb for us, but equally don’t forget we gave him a chance after Chelsea had kicked him out. Part of me wishes him well if he goes and why wouldn’t he want champions league and trophies. But our loyalty is to West Ham not Rice, so the other half of me thinks fuck him if he doesn’t sign a new contract.

Manuel - the whole fucking team passes sideways and backwards

Re: Rice comments
A hell of a lot of fuss about a player who mainly just passes sideways and back with barely no assists or goals. Christ knows what some of you lot would be reacting if had we had someone like Gerrard, Keane, Vierra, Lampard who are on different planets compared to old Declan.

Re: Rice comments
If only Moyes had invested in a few signings last Jan. We might have won a cup and got some CL football. But there was nobody available who was better than what we had……

nychammer 7:11 Fri Dec 2
Re: Rice comments
Good luck to him. This is inevitable. We fucked up horribly on a couple of fronts last season re Champions League and subsequently Europa Qualification. As a club we're not rich or well run enough to offer Rice the opportunities he seeks. He's wasting his time here.

I worry more about how we spend (or waste) the money that we get from his sale. We've signed some real stinkers in recent seasons and we for gods sake we need a manager who knows what the fuck he's doing in the transfer marke, let alone how to offer up some decent football that might win actualy win us something.
